At one point I was torn between a new Apple iPhone or a Microsoft Lumia 950. I want to point out Android phones where not even on my radar at this point in the search for a new device.
When I say alternative, I mean Windows Phone more specifically the Lumia 950 as I lay my head down in shame. Windows Phone only has 2% of the mobile phone market may be less at this point, but there where features on the Lumia Phone that was very appealing over iPhone and Android.
First thing I liked about the Lumia 950 is the tile look that Microsoft does with there phones. I don’t know why but to me it just looks like a lot fun everything right there at a quick scroll up or down. I was intrigued in a phone having Windows 10 since Microsoft was promoting one Windows on every device. Windows 10 has great mobile experience using Windows 10 tablet mode.
Battery life is a big issue for me I am on my phone a lot and I hate when the battery dies when I am in middle of working. The Lumia 950 has 3000mAh batter with built-in wireless charging for fast charging compared to the iPhone 6s with 1715 mAh or iPhone 7 with 2900 mAh battery.
The next thing that caught my attention was the Lumia 950 has a 20MP (Mega Pixel) auto focus camera with two-stage capture key and a 2x digital zoom. The iPhone 6s only has 12 MP camera but the new iPhone 7 has Dual 12 MP cameras which was 4 MP more than the Lumia 950.
The Lumia 950 has a very impressive screen a 5.2″ WQHD with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and 564ppi. The new iPhone 7 has 750 x 1334 pixels with 326 ppi or 1920-by-1080-pixel resolution at 401 ppi so the Microsoft does a nice job with the display.
The processor and ram on both the iPhone and Lumia 950 are about the same on both devices. The real down fall to any windows phone is the lack of app and accessory support. While Microsoft has taken great steps to get better app support but due to their small presence in the mobile market many third parties do not carry products or apps for there phones. As attractive as the Lumia 950 is the issue will be for any users getting your favorite apps on the device. If Microsoft is going to be appealing to the consumers in the phone market they need app and accessory support.
I think the Microsoft Lumia 950 is a great phone but I do not think it is the right phone for me on a daily basis.
